A pulmonary embolism is a serious condition in which one or more arteries in the lungs become blocked by a blood clot. Pulmonary emboli are caused by blood clots that can travel from the legs or, rarely, other parts of the body, known as deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
Symptoms of a pulmonary embolism include shortness of breath, chest pain, and cough. It is important to get medical attention as soon as possible in order to break up the clot which can be done with blood thinners and drugs, or procedures.
Dr. Altus performs examinations and orders tests as appropriate, such as lung function tests that can be done in the office, and/or other lung imaging studies.
