Pulmonary Fibrosis

Interstitial Lung Disease is often referred to as pulmonary fibrosis or interstitial pneumonia. “Pulmonary Fibrosis” is the term for a group of conditions that can cause inflammation and scarring surrounding the alveoli in the lungs. This lung damage leads to difficulty breathing because of decreased ability of the lungs to take in oxygen.

While in most cases the direct cause of Pulmonary Fibrosis is unknown, it can be caused by a combination of extrinsic or environmental exposures, intrinsic or systemic disease, or genetic disorders, such as smoking cigarettes.

Dr. Altus diagnoses and treat Pulmonary Fibrosis and Interstitial Lung Disease. Dr. Altus performs examinations and orders tests as appropriate, such as lung function tests that can be done in the office, and/or other lung imaging studies.
